iSiS-Ex, is claiming a world first for its recently introduced SCORM-based Learning and Content Management System (LMS), designed to speed and simplify essential maintenance in accordance with BE EN 60079-17, in distant locations. By using the innovative learning system, developed by iSiS-Ex in partnership with I2D2, iSiS-Ex customers can carry out this work in the field and avoid the expense, inconvenience and downtime associated with having to return units to the company’s UK-based factory.
Currently available for its Zone 1 products - a Zone 2 version will follow shortly - the system extends to the replacement of modules and boards. Users simply follow the step-by-step learning process at their own pace, taking tests at specified points in the course to assess knowledge and understanding. Upon completion they receive an official certificate that is valid for three years. They are then classed as competent to undertake the work covered by the LMS.
SCORM is a collection of standards and specifications for web-based e-learning. Using a concept called sequencing, it constrains a learner to a fixed set of paths through the training material, permits the learner to ‘bookmark’ their progress when taking breaks, and assures the acceptability of test scores achieved by the learner. Significantly, in December 2003, the US Department of Defense mandated that all its e-learning purchases must comply with SCORM standards.
Comments iSiS-Ex managing director, Howard Gould: “This is a major development in our industry sector that, along with our products, sets us apart from our competitors. It adds value by putting the customer first and ensuring that wherever an iSiS unit is operating - anywhere in the world - a simple and effective tool exists to allow the customer to undertake straightforward, routine maintenance.”
“This is particularly important in those countries that impose import and export duties. iSiS-Ex customers can by-pass the expense involved - which can often be considerable - by following the learning system and doing the work themselves. They remain in full control, with no hassle and, most importantly, no downtime.”
